Identify major theme, minor theme, conflicts.
Characters: Protagonist, antagonist.
Three-Acts Structure: Setup, rising tension, conflict + resolution.

2. INSTRUCTIONS

Final Project: Comic Cover and Animated One-Page Introduction (40%)

Motion comic (or animated comic) is a form of animation combining elements of print comic books and animation. Individual panels are expanded into a full shot while sound effects, voice acting, and animation are added to the original artwork.

Select a story from the short stories of Edgar Allan Poe and create:
  1. Comic Cover Page
  2. Animated One Page Intro

Animated scope:
1. Parallax (to create depth)
2. Secondary Action
3. Animated Background

Project Brief

  • Choose one song listed below, appreciate the song, hear it through and understand the lyrics. 
    • Fly me to the moon 
    • The way you look tonight 
    • Come fly with me 
    • Girl from Ipanema 
    • New York, New York
  • Sketch initial ideas, figure out storyline, illustrate and compose and animate a ‘moment’ base of your understanding from the chosen song. This moment will be the album cover. 
  • Illustrated typography must be included. 
  • Foreground mid ground and background must be considered and illustrated. 

he e-portfolio is an online blog (Blogspot) that is updated on a weekly basis, throughout the semester. It documents the summary of the lectures, instructions, feedback, reflections and further readings on a project, by project basis. Compile and document all information (failures, successes, epiphanies, sketches, visual research, printouts, websites, images, charts, etc.) logically and chronologically.

  • To demonstrate the ability to neatly and effectively present the body of work in a visually pleasing and in a methodical manner.
  • To analyze and evaluate the learning to gain relevant insights into their strengths and weaknesses.

    • Art Nouveau  An international style of art, architecture, and applied art, especially the decorative arts1. It is an art movement that took place in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The style is characterized by organic shapes and sinuous lines, and is often inspired by natural forms such as the sinuous curves of plants and flowers. Art Nouveau represented a break from creative tradition that was exotic, extravagant, and ultimately modern.
  • Originality - how unique is your idea and how suitable is it? 
  • Technique - your basic skills in composition, your illustration style and proposal that fits the song 
  • Interpretation - How did you interpret the song into your Illustration 
  • Storytelling - Does your proposal tells a story? Does it show emotion? it's important not just to draw a character standing with a blank expression 
  • Requirements - initial storyline, ideas + sketches| illustration | final animation gif The recommended size is linked below.
  • Display consistent evidence of meticulously documented progress/process works in the module, instructions, research, feedback and reflections, in a chronological and logical sequence, dated, labelled and captioned, maintaining informational hierarchy, intuitive and easily navigable content that is easy on the eyes for the purpose of introspection. 
  • Demonstrate autonomy and a continued commitment to learn independently, in a consistent manner, using a variety of self-directed learning activities, exploring a topic in-depth, yielding a rich awareness and/or little-known information indicating intense interest, initiative and effort in the subject.
